It was just announced that there will be a new awards category this March at Canadian Music Week 2009. The Steve Young Broadcaster Award will be presented each year to the top, up and coming, Canadian broadcaster under the age of 30. Steve spent his career mentoring promising broadcasters, how appropriate that an annual award be given in his name that continues his legacy! There will also be a 2-3 minute tribute to Steve during the big awards show.
For those who are unfamiliar, CMW is a cross between the Grammys and South by Southwest, and is held on Toronto every year.
What an absolutely perfect way to honor and remember Steve! He was always in the background lifting others up so they could shine.
God, I miss my friend...
That is so awesome. I hope they put the tribute online, at youtube or something. That would be wonderful to see.

A very nice, and very fitting tribute.

It's almost been two years since i lost my best friend and i find it harder to deal with now than when it first happened. We were doing an Elton John weekend on Vinyl953 and i remembered the bet that Elton and Lennon made about "Whatever gets you through the night". If it got to Number 1 (lennon did not think it would) John had to play onstage with Elton at one of his concerts. So on this day (nov.28th) in 1974, John Lennon got on stage with Elton and they sang three songs together. " I saw her standing there", "Lucy in the sky with diamonds" and "Whatever gets you through the night". This was the last live performance the John Lennon did. 6years and 10 days later he was shot dead in front of his apartment. That day is Dec. 8th... The same day i lost my best friend Steve Young... It will be a haunting reminder every year for me.... I had a hard time getting through this on air piece although it was great to actually find the interview with Elton about the show, and get the live version of them playing on the air. December 8, 2008 rip my friend.
